Swedish Massage or Deep Tissue Massage: Which is Right for You?

A Swedish massage is intended for relieving tight muscles from daily stress

At Pure Reflections Spa, we are a full-service medical spa, and we offer a wide variety of massages. Two of the most common types of massages are Swedish massage and deep tissue massage. How do you know which is right for you? Read on to learn a little more about both types.

  • Swedish Massage- A Swedish massage is intended for relieving tight muscles from daily stress. It is a relaxing form of massage that includes kneading, long strokes, deep circular movements, and passive joint movements. Swedish massage typically goes over the whole body, though you can ask your masseuse to focus on a certain area if you’re feeling increased tension or pain there. A Swedish massage is a perfect choice if you have been experiencing normal tightness and stress from daily activities like sitting at a computer or moderate exercise.
  • Deep Tissue Massage- Many of the same strokes and movements as the Swedish massage are used in a deep tissue massage, but they are applied with much more pressure and can feel painful. Deep tissue massages are intended for athletes, people with injuries or enhanced pain, or conditions such as fibromyalgia. Your masseuse will work through layers of muscle using special techniques to promote healing with increased blood flow and reduced inflammation. Your masseuse will want to provide you with an optimal experience, so don’t be afraid to speak up to them about your level of pain and let them know if the pressure feels too strong.

As the oldest and largest medical spa in Hickory, North Carolina, we have a wealth of knowledge and expertise. We know how to provide our clients with the ultimate massage experience. Call us today to set up your massage appointment.
